Rock the River 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk Coming in May

In March of 2008, the Tabernacle UMC faith community lost one of their cherished youth, Jenna Grace King, in a car accident. As her faith community and family mourned her loss they found a new energy in their faith to begin to dream big and pray large to the possibilities of creating outreach ministries. These ministries would serve those in need of clothing, food, and other services. As with most small faith communities, they at first doubted their ability to provide meaningful services, however as many in the community looked back upon the life of Jenna they could see the drive she had to overcome obstacles placed before her.

Proclaiming Grace Outreach is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization that was formed in 2008 in memory of Jenna.  We currently have a food pantry open twice per month serving over 200 people each opening, operate the Thrift Spot (our main funding source) each Saturday, and offer small home repair for those in need in upper James City and lower New Kent Counties.  We also have an active presence in the community by partnering with nine churches, several civic groups, and other individuals.

Each year in August we have our largest fundraiser, The Jenna Bash Festival.  Normally our run has taken place in conjunction with this event.  This will be the first year that we will hold the 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk as a stand alone event.  It is our hope to attract more people than ever before due to a cooler time of year, a new beautiful course, and students still being in school.

Runners and Walkers are welcome! The Rock the River 5K and One Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday May 3, 2014. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. for all who are not pre-registered. Pre-registration guarantees you a t-shirt and a goodie bag. Run or walk the beautiful course through wooded areas and along the Chickahominy River. Rockahock Campgrounds at 1428 Outpost Road in Lanexa, VA has just cut a trail for this one of a kind run!
