Williamsburg Running for November 5-10

Tuesday, November 5 - Williamsburg - Warhill Trail Distance Run/Tempo Run Workout, 3:30 p.m. (note the changed starting time, due to the end of daylight savings time), meet at parking lot in front of WISC (Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex), nearest soccer fields, of the Warhill Sports Complex (off Longhill Road, just past Lafayette High School). Course is totally soft-surface of hard-packed gravel and dirt Warhill Nature Trail, shaded scenic route. Distance options of 4 to 9 miles. Wednesday, November 6, Williamsburg - Colonial Road Runners weekly interval workout, 5:30 p.m., Walsingham Academy track. Speed workout of up to 4 miles worth of repeats, each repeat starting and finishing on the Walsingham track. Surface is mostly grass athletic fields, or crushed gravel running path, before finishing on the track (during daylight hours) or entirely on the track (after dark). Note that this year the Walsingham weekly intervals on Wednesday afternoons will continue at 5:30 p.m. throughout the winter months, as decided by workout coordinator Ed Irish and the regular participants. Ed emailed “We have lights for the track and will continue to run at 5:30 during the winter”.

Saturday, November 9, Williamsburg – “Enterprisers” distance run, 6:00 a.m., Merchants Square of Colonial Williamsburg. Meet in parking lot between the Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop and the Trellis Restaurant. Distance runs of as much as 16 miles, including optional 3 mile add-on, starting at 5:30 a.m. Workouts are announced each week on Thursday or Friday. Friday, November 8 – Williamsburg – Massey Cancer 5K Road Race, 4:45 p.m., Zable Stadium. Here is the information provided by the men’s and women’s William and Mary track teams and coaches Steve Walsh and Jill Miller

Massey Cancer 5k – November 8th
The time of the 26th Annual Massey Cancer 5k Road Race has changed to a start time of 4:45pm.  We are very proud of the organization and hard work of our athletes who have already raised $15,000 (and we still have a few days to go)! The race will begin at Zable Stadium on Friday November 8th.  If you would like to register and run with us, you can find more information at http://massey5k.com/ You can also get involved by making a donation to support cancer research at the Massey Cancer Center at http://support-events.vcu.edu/site/TR/Events/General?fr_id=1190&pg=pfind  Over the years, we have raised more than $100,000 for cancer research and treatment at MCV's Massey Center.


Sunday, November 10 - Newport News – Virginia Running Festival Half Marathon and 5K. Many of the fastest CRR and Peninsula Track Club runners will be competing this Sunday in this event, organized by Flat Out Events, the same people who put on the Christmas Town Dash 8K at Busch Gardens (Sunday, Dec. 8th, a CRR Grand Prix event). The Virginia Running Festival Half-Marathon & 5K from Flat-Out Events is back! Run 13.1 miles through historical neighborhoods of Newport News , on Mariners' Museum property, and back through the beautiful campus of Christopher Newport University at the Virginia Running Festival!
The Virginia Running Festival will also feature the Alumni 5K on the campus of CNU--with an all new course--and the Little Captains Half-Miler for kids of all ages!
Flat-Out Events is honored to be a part of CNU's 2013 Homecoming Weekend--But don't worry if you're not a Captain--everyone is invited!
Where is the race located?
From the Christopher Newport University campus, run 13.1 miles through historical neighborhoods of Newport News , on Mariners' Museum property, and back through the beautiful campus of Christopher Newport University at the Virginia Running Festival! The Virginia Running Festival will also feature the new and improved Alumni 5K on the campus of CNU and a Family Fun Run for kids of all ages!

7:30 am: Half Marathon
8:15 am: 5k
10:00 am: Awards
10:30 am: Half-Mile Fun Run
What do I get for my entry fee?
All Virginia Running Festival Half Marathon and 5k participants will receive a short sleeve technical shirt.  All Half Marathon finishers will receive a unique finisher's medal. Participants in the Fun Run get a great personalized kids-only bib and a cool finisher's medal! All participants and their supporters are invited to the post-race festivities with live music, food and plenty of FUN!
Can you describe the half marathon course?
The half-marathon course is mostly flat and shaded with a few hilly stretches.  A very scenic route with great views of the James River and Mariners' Museum property.
Where does the 5K start?
The 5K starts on Moore 's Lane in front of Captains Park (home of the CNU Baseball Team) .
Can you describe the course?
The 5K course begins around the CNU campus perimeter, then through the heart of the campus, finishing on the track inside Pomoco Stadium.
