Todd Kessler wins his first Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix race of 2013, after winning the men's Grand Prix title in 2011. John Piggott second at Queens Lake, after winning at Toano Icy 8K and Yorktown Victory Run 8 Miler. Piggott currently leads the 2013 CRR Grand Prix for the men.
Mercedes Castillo-D'Amico only runner to break a race age group record on Saturday, as her 20:29 was almost two minutes faster than Joan Coven's 55-59 Queens Lake 5K record from 1999 (22:22). Debbie McLaughlin close behind, just three seconds back in 20:32. McLaughlin currently leads for the women in the 2013 CRR Grand Prix.
The race was organized by the Colonial Road Runners and benefited the Colonial Road Runners Scholarship Fund.

Queens Lake 5K Run T-shirt Artwork Design
This year’s Queens Lake 5K Run T-shirt was designed by Ryan Elder and screen-printed by Colonial Sports, a major sponsor of the race. The front of the shirt featured a dock on a scenic lake, with two empty boats tied to that dock. Those boats represent the departed souls of Michael Mann and Tom Ray, in whose memory the race was run, benefiting the Colonial Road Runners Scholarship Fund. This is from a Native American Indian tribal custom of placing their dead in canoes that would be allowed to wander off.
Queens Lake Run Race Age Group Awards
Similarly, the colors (orange and black) of this year’s race awards (custom-engraved medallions with neck ribbons), represent the colors of the Colonial Road Runners competitive teams, affectionately known as the “Pumpkins.” Both Mann and Ray proudly wore the orange-and-black CRR team uniforms at area races and national championships.
