Annual Meeting Tomorrow

Want to run faster times in races, and to avoid or recover from injuries at the same time? Who doesn’t?


To find out the how’s and why’s, come to the annual Colonial Road Runners Elections Meeting and Featured Speaker Dr. Lara Quinlan, this Tuesday, April 30th, starting at 7:00 p.m. (CRR business meeting) and at 7:30 p.m. (lecture), all at the TPMG Office Building at 5424 Discovery Park Boulevard in New Town, Williamsburg.

After the talk, the Colonial Road Runners will be providing soda, beer and pizza while runners socialize and ask further questions of our speaker. To ensure the proper number of chairs for the attendees, and the proper amount of refreshments, please indicate whether or not you’ll be able to make this CRR annual meeting, and how many will be attending with you.

Lecture Topic by Lara Quinlan

Core strengthening and its importance in leg injuries, etc., in particular as it relates to:

*Hamstring injuries and running

*IT band (iliotibial band) syndrome

*Patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner’s knee)

Questions are welcome about other running injuries, sports nutrition, etc., and Dr. Quinlan will be available after her talk to answer additional questions personally.

Dr. Quinlan earned her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at the College of William and Mary on a soccer scholarship in 2003. She played on the W&M soccer team from 1999 to 2002. In 2008, she completed her medical degree at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed both her internship and residency in Family Practice at Virginia Commonwealth University–Fairfax Family Practice in Fairfax , Virginia in 2011.

Before joining TPMG in July 2012, she completed her fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville , and received her Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine (CAQSM).

Dr. Quinlan is board certified in Family Medicine and her special skills include musculoskeletal injections, concussion management, casting/splinting/bracing and fracture management, dermatologic procedures, basic sports nutrition and more.

Currently, Dr. Quinlan serves as the Associate Medical Director for the Newport News Public Schools Athletic Department. As a specialist in Sports Medicine, she is thoroughly trained in caring for all athletes and patients with musculoskeletal related issues, and acute injuries, and educating the public about primary care sports medicine. She provides medical coverage for athletic events in the community, and works with athletes of all levels and experience from youth, high school, college and professional athletes to weekend warriors. In her free time, she enjoys spending time in Williamsburg with her husband (also a William and Mary graduate) and two dogs, running (she recently completed the Shamrock Half Marathon), playing soccer, and reading.
Dr. Quinlan treats patients for:

· Acute injuries (sprains, strains, etc.)

· Fractures

· Casting and splinting

· Concussions

· Injections of all types (trigger point and ultrasound guided)

· Platelet Rich Plasma injections (PRP)

· Sports nutrition

· arthritis and joint disorders

TPMG Orthopedics and Sports Medicine office building in New Town ( 5424 Discovery Park Blvd. , Williamsburg 23188 ). From Ironbound Road , the TPMG building is at the end of Discovery Park Blvd. , and on the right. Park in the back of the TPMG Building, go through the middle doors, and take the elevator or stairs to the second floor and the main conference room (with glass doors), and which is directly across the hallway from the restroom facilities.
