Please spread the word that Open runners are welcome Saturday 11/6/2010 (see below for correct date) for a cross country meet in Charlottesville, on the UVA Cross Country Courseat Panorama Farms. I'm hoping to get the CRR 40-49 squad, as well as the 50-59 squad, to head up there as a team in preparation for Club Cross Country Nationals in Charlotte December 11.
UVA X-C Coach Matt Downs writes:
For our cross country meets, we always allow unattached (or open) athletes, as long as they have exhausted their high school eligibility. TheNCAA permits post-collegiate athletes, of any age, to compete. The next opportunity for that is Nov 6. We don't mind waiting for finishers, particularly if you have a group of friends in the 40-year-old group!
We are always interested in expanding our cross country meets, particularly if it involves growing the sport in the community and state. Their are limitations to what we are allowed to do at Panorama Farms, a privately owned farm, in terms of the number of competitors and number of meets. It is one of our goals to host a large high school and college invitational each fall, where an open (masters or local runner) race is a possibility.

My personal pipe dream: Holding the Virginia State Masters Cross-Country Championship there some day. Or maybe here in Williamsburg!
Please spread the word (don't assume all potential squad members receive this e-mail)! And please, do contact me (Daniel Shaye, danieldoc@tni.net) if you're interested in competing.

Course description: "Our Panorama Farms cross country course is, I believe, one of the finest venues on the East Coast. 850 acre farm, a rolling hills (but fair) course on 100% grass."
Please note that this is a HIGHLY COMPETITIVE meet. Sub-25's for 8K are commonplace on this course for men; as are sub-22's for 6K women. Though the UVA coach has offered to wait for all finishers, please be sure you are physically and emotionally ready for the experience.
Please contact Daniel Shaye (danieldoc@tni.net) if you're interested.
