Runners and Volunteers Needed for Sunday's Christmas Town Dash 8K at Busch Gardens

To CRR finish line volunteers -

Although the Christmas Town Dash 8K at Busch Gardens this Sunday, December 8th will be a chip-timed event by Mettle Events (with the usual CRR finish line system and chute not needed), the race is a Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix Event, and we have offered to help out wherever needed at the finish line (jobs there can include bib number recording, "chute pushing", walker bib number recording, or assistance with timing). If you can volunteer Sunday morning at Busch Gardens, let me know, and I'll let you know the specific assignments from the organizing group, Flat Out Events and Mettle Events. Volunteers will get shirts. Let me know if you can help.

Thanks,

Rick

Greetings!

Greetings, fellow runners and athletic supporters! I am the team coordinator for the Colonial Road Runners. It has taken me a mere 14 months (possibly longer) to figure out how to blog. I think the Great Pyramid at Giza was built in a shorter length of time (please don't check me on this). So why am I writing? Do I want fame, fortune? Literary immortality? YES! But as a side benefit, I will use this forum to provide information to the Williamsburg/Tidewater/Virginia running community on upcoming team running events. These events are typically U.S.A. Track and Field (USATF) national championships, although I may also provide information on USATF, RRCA, or other organization regional and local team competitions. I will also use this forum to recruit new team members and form squads from existing team members for specific events. So...who can be a team member? Answer: YOU! Well, probably you. You just need to be a CRR team member and have a desire to participate in a team event with a fun bunch of people! Additionally, if the competition is a USATF event, you must be a USATF member ($30 annual membership fee for adults, $20 for 18 and under; U.S. citizenship required); further, if the event is only for Masters athletes, you must be age 40 or over. We have had great success in team events in the past. We have had numerous team top 3 finishes, including a number of national championship teams. We have also had a number of individual national champions and one multiple-time world champion. We have a team account for team prize money, and that money is used to defray team travel expenses. Here is a list of upcoming events that I'm currently tracking: 2/15/2014 - USA XC Championships, Boulder, Colorado (USATF event) 5/31/2014 - USATF Masters 8K Championships, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA!!! 10/5/2014 - USATF Masters 5K Championships, Syracuse, NY Mid to late October - USATF Masters XC Championships, location TBD 12/13/2014 - USATF Club XC Championships, Bethlehem, PA If you are interested in joining the CRR running team and proudly donning our orange team singlet, please contact me via the e-mail link on the blog. If that doesn't work, just fat-finger in my e-mail address: chammalamadingdong@yahoo.com Here's to future team competition! Greg Dawson P.S. The "Dingo" moniker is the team name for the CRR M40 (i.e. men 40-49) squad. We are fierce, mangy, and not ashamed to dig through trash.

Crapolfest Award Winner Results

By Rick Platt

Results from the 5th annual Crapolfest 5K Run, held Saturday morning from the Albert-Daly Field, Martin Family Stadium of the College of William and Mary. The race was the 16th in the 20-race Colonial Road Runners Grand Prix series for 2013.

Men's winner Todd Kessler set a new course record (16:57), breaking his own mark from 2010.

Women's winner Kathleen Lautzenheiser, a William and Mary senior, was a remarkable second overall in the race (17:59), men and women combined, of a field of 147 finishers.

Women's runner-up Mercedes Castillo-D'Amico, came within five seconds of her own Virginia State Record for women 55-59 with her time of 20:06, compared to the state record time of 20:01 she ran at May's Walsingham Academy 5K Run. Still it was the second fastest time ever run by a women 55-59 in the state of Virginia.

Age group records were broken by Kessler, Ken Alberg (men 50-54, 19:17) and by George Carrigan (men 65-69, 21:27).
