Running In Memory of Meg

If you want to run with a group in Williamsburg on Saturday to honor the memory of Meg Cross Menzies, we know of at least three opportunities:

(1) The Enterprisers at 6am at the P3 parking lot in Colonial Williamsburg. Behind the Trellis & Baskin Robins.

(2) United Athletics Williamsburg at the JCC Rec Center on Saturday morning at 8:30am to run the loop a couple/few times/however long you'd like to run!  Again though-- nothing seriously formal/set-up, but more of a meeting place and time for those who would like to gather to run for Meg's Miles.

(3) Peninsula Road Runners and TEAM Williamsburg - Saturday at 7:30 AM at the Greensprings Trail. Meet at the trailhead behind the parking lot at Jamestown High School.

Not sure if there are other runs set up. And you can always just run on your own.

You can read about Meg at https://www.facebook.com/groups/megsmiles/ and at  http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/local/crime/hanover-mother-s-death-inspires-social-media-phenomenon/article_83fb7437-3522-5c39-a76e-79edfed86e01.html

Run the DOG Update

From Jim Elder

Happy New Years to all! I hope that each of you and your families have a healthy, happy (set new PR's) and prosperous 2014. Thank you for your incredible support  in 2013.

Registration is now open for the 5th Annual Run the D.O.G. St. A couple of items to note:

First, I moved the sign up venue to Run Sign Up so please go to https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Williamsburg/RunTheDOG
Please pass the word to your friends.

Second, I increased the Prize money 1st $300, 2nd $150, 3rd $75.00

Third, I added awards and prize money for Masters. Top male and Female Masters receive $75.00 Top three Male and female masters receive custom award medals

Fourth, I added a run/walk category for those who plan to run and walk the course but do not want to sign up as runners. No separate awards for this category. You will compete for the same awards as if you signed up in the Run category. I hope this will eliminate the problem of having run walkers from entering the competitive walk category.

Fifth, I created a Competitive Walk Division for those who will walk the entire  course. These individuals will have awards for the top three male and female finishers.

I have kept the Team Awards. A Team consists of 5 or more members and it is not  gender specific. Award plaques are given to the:

Fastest Team, Top three times count (cumulative time)

Largest Team, Total number of team Members

Largest Donation, Team that Raise the most money for Angels of Mercy

Please consider creating a Team and helping us raise money for the Angels of Mercy Medical Clinic.

We are always in need of volunteers, so please contact me if you're interested in helping us to make this year as successful as last year.

This is a Healthy Hearts Healthy Mind event. Stay Active! Stay Healthy!

Sincerely,

Jim Elder
